Australian Amalgamated Terminals or AAT as it is commonly known is a specialist Multi-Purpose Stevedoring Company that operates in all the major Australian Ports with the exception of Fremantle in Western Australia.
The first four of six new Terberg model RT323’s 4x4 Tractors commenced operations with AAT in Brisbane and Port Kembla in January 2012 fitted with an equal split of SafeNecks and Standard Goosenecks in each location. As it quickly became clear that the SafeNecks provided a significant margin in safety and performance over the standard Goosenecks, AAT elected to separately purchase two more SafeNecks and thereby standardise the fleet.
The patented Terberg SafeNeck ensures optimum weight distribution between front and rear axles which can increase permissible payloads by as much as 250%. Following the outstanding performance of the units in Brisbane and Port Kembla, additional RT323’s with SafeNecks were the obvious choice when AAT expanded its operation in
Melbourne and two additional units were delivered in April 2014 bringing the fleet up to six units.
The AAT RT323’s are powered by a 240kW (326 HP) Mercedes V6 diesel engine driving through a ZF fully automatic transmission and Kessler planetary axles. In conjunction with the SafeNeck this driveline configuration provides superior performance for the heavy ramp work encountered on the modern RoRo vessels serviced by AAT.
The Terbergs are supplied and supported throughout Australia by Clark Equipment which also gave AAT peace of mind when it comes to after sales support. Clark have also supplied AAT a range of equipment including Omega Container Handling Lift Trucks and specialised 32T capacity RoRo forklifts.
