When Flinders Ports based in Adelaide South Australia decided to double their Bulk Material Handling capability at Port Adelaide the equipment purchase decision to implement that strategy was of critical importance.
The Tractors are required to shuttle the purpose built containers of Iron Ore between the Mobile Harbour Crane, The receiving vessel and Container Stack. Flinders Ports felt their existing Tractors were a bit light for the job of hauling up to 110 Tonnes Gross Combined Weights (GCW) in a B Double configuration every cycle every day. The solution was the decision to purchase two Terberg Heavy Duty Model YT220 Tractors from Clark Equipment combined with the support of local Clark Agent SA Lift & Loader.
The YT220 Terbergs for Flinders are equipped with a Cummins QSB 6.7 litre electronic engine rated at 164kW (220HP) driving through an Allison fully automatic Transmission and Kessler Low Ratio Planetary Axles. This combination permitted GCW’s of up to 140 tonnes meaning the Terberg was working easy handling the expected max of 110 Tonnes and leaving capacity in reserve should Flinders wish to increase Tractor productivity at a later date by moving to Super B Double configuration. The high capacity Air Brake System, 300 Litre plus fuel tank and focus on operator comfort and safety were bonuses with the Terberg.
The Terberg Tractors at Flinders Ports join an impressive list of over two hundred current model Heavy Duty Terbergs operating in Australia and New Zealand including four new 405 HP model RT403 tractors, pictured, for BlueScope WesternPort and BIS Whyalla.
