65,000 hours at BlueScope Steel… And still running strong!

Located at BlueScope Steel in Port Kembla, NSW, is an Omega 28B Steel Coil Handler lifting steel coils and plate. The truck has worked nearly 65,000 hours, and is still performing in a front-line application.

It was specially designed and manufactured in Australia to have a removable counterweight so it could be dropped into the decks of ships, allowing it to load coils of Australian steel for export.

It has been estimated to have lifted some 30,000,000 tonnes of steel—that’s what you call an “Omega Heavy Lifter”!
